If you want to break out of your same ol’, same ol’ routine, try these tips from Men’s Health magazine. They’ll get you headed in a whole new direction:
- Vow to talk to at least one stranger a day When you’re waiting to cross the street, or in line for coffee, talk to somebody. It could lead to a life changing romance. Or at the very least, it’ll make you feel better. A study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that having any social interaction activates the pleasure center in your brain – which is usually only triggered by food, drugs and money. And even just chatting with someone new has a positive effect on mood.
- Give up TV for 2 weeks. According to Neilsen Media research the average person spends 2 months watching TV every year. Turning it off for 2 weeks will give you an extra 56 hours to workout, spend time with your kids, or start a new project. And it’ll lower your blood pressure.
- When you get up tomorrow, come up with 25 new ideas in 10 minutes. Don’t edit or critique yourself. According to the book “How To Think Like Leonardo da Vinci” you only need one idea that works to motivate yourself. And a survey of more than a thousand managers found that innovation and creativity are the most important qualities for corporate survival.
